Dog and Cat Ultrasound in Sharon
While digital x-ray allows us to examine the condition of your pet’s bones and detect signs of arthritis or fracture, our dog and cat ultrasound machine enables us to study the heart and abdominal organs in greater detail. Ultrasound is the second most common imaging tool next to x-rays and allows us to examine organs in real time. In addition, we can adjust positioning for the best possible image. At Sharon Veterinary Clinic, we are happy to offer our dog and cat ultrasound services because it gives us the ability to go above and beyond in the care of your pet. Call us today at (781) 784-7554.
How Dog and Cat Ultrasounds Work
Dog and cat ultrasound is a drug-free, non-invasive procedure that uses short pulses of sound to develop a real-time, moving image of your pet’s internal organs. When soundwave pulses bounce off soft tissues, echoes convert into electrical impulses by the ultrasound machine’s computer system. These impulses are recorded and the machine translates them into an image, which we can then evaluate for clues about your pet’s condition.
What Dog and Cat Ultrasounds Allow Us to See
Our veterinary team utilizes the Esaote ultrasound machine to produce the clearest, highest-quality images of your pet’s cardiac, abdominal, and musculoskeletal systems. As a result, image acquisition time is greatly reduced, and, like x-rays, the procedure is completely painless. Our dog and cat ultrasound capabilities include the following:
- General imaging to examine the shape and texture of soft tissue organs
- Cardiac imaging
- Advanced cardiac imaging
- Imaging of the reproductive system
- Imaging of the musculoskeletal system
Furthermore, we can detect:
- Pregnancies
- Signs of pancreatitis
- Injuries of the muscles, tendons and cartilage
- Fluid in the abdomen
- Abnormalities of the heart
- Cysts and tumors
Sedation and Pet Ultrasounds
When a pet needs an ultrasound, sedation is not usually necessary. However, if we feel it would help us obtain the clearest images with minimal stress to your dog or cat, we may recommend it. We will be very happy to talk with you about the benefits of pet ultrasound and what you can expect to take place during the procedure. If you have any questions about ultrasound or would like to schedule an exam for your loved one, please give us a call at (781) 784-7554.
